Taryn Murphy
Biography
Literally born into the world of music, Taryn has been comfortable behind the mic for as long as she can remember. Her father James, a talented musician / songwriter, owned and operated the only recording studio within 100 miles of their hometown of Northport Washington. A Mecca for musicians and fertile ground for young talent to grow.

Her first official recording session was at the age of 8 followed by a win at a local talent contest at age 9, which she jokes was, “The easiest money I ever made in this business!” By 11, she was playing multiple instruments and fronting the all-family band, “The Murphy’s. This resulted in 7 years on the road touring the Western U.S. & Canada, performing an estimated 1500 shows, and recording a total of 5 albums, all before the age of 18.

“People tease that we were like the Partridge Family which I guess is pretty accurate. It was a great way to grow up though. 6 of us living in a Winnebago, home schooled, spending our days and nights playing music. How cool is that?”

Currently living and working in Nashville, TN. she has evolved into quite an accomplished songwriter, securing 6 major releases and 3 singles in under 2 years, as well as landing a number of film and television spots on HBO, Showtime, Fox, MTV and most notably, the theme song, “Make It Go Away” featured in Mariah Carey’s latest film, “Wisegirls”.

In between for writing other artists and contributing and arranging vocals to an array of outside projects, (Natascha Hagen, Taylor Dayne, Ani Lorak) she is making time to complete her first CD in 5 years. A labor of love that includes an exciting and eclectic mix of collaborators and guest performers including Achim Reschke and Chris Landon. (Make It Go Away, Almost Sorry) In a surprising twist for those familiar with Taryn and her music, the project takes a more pop / blues direction. One she describes as comparable to some of her greatest influences, Jonny Lang, Marc Broussard & Nikka Costa.

At an undeniable place of creative and vocal maturity, 2007 promises to be a productive and exciting year for this (young) veteran music artist. Stay tuned!

GB Reviews "Almost Sorry"
Oh My God! Breathtaking!

This is a fabulous track, really! What a vocal, put little hairs up on my neck and everything. Backing track is just great, strings and piano are very well written and mixed but CHRIST that lead vocal kicks ass!! Backing vocals are soo sweet too. If I could give you 10 out of 5 I would. This is definitely the best track I have heard on GarageBand EVER and if you dont get a deal on the strength of your vocalist there really is no justice in this world. A Real Singer

Oh my god!! This is what a real singer sounds like. Great vocals!!! All the way through, very professional, are you unsigned? Man....somebody sign this singer up!! I don't even care for the music that much. Your voice is your best instrument!! Enough said!! Reviewed by: ECOPro - Bronx, New York

Emotional, Beautiful, Soulful Vocals & Atmospheric Music!

Okay, I'll be honest-- when I eyed the time of this tune (four minutes!), I smothered the desire to cry. There are songs on GB that one wishes would just end. NOT THIS ONE!! What a ride! Wow. Wow. I have got to give props to a fellow female singer with big, powerful, dynamic pipes. From whispering vulnerability with a quivering vibrato that sounds like she's on the verge of tears, to a roaring, fiery strength not to be trifled with, this girl rips this song out.. selflessly exposing her heart to the listener.

Four minutes go by in the blink of an eye, so swept up does one become in the song's ups and downs, and wonderful, poetic, honest lyrics. Four minutes go by, and your fingers itch to hit the 'repeat' button, which I've just done.

Spellbox Says "HOLY SH**T" Good!

Fantastic effects on this woman's vocals. She is melting my heart. FINALLY! A woman with STRENGTH, POWER, precision, and SOUL! SING IT GIRL!!!!!!!!! Gooooooosebumps!!!!!!!!! It hit me when the chorus & guitars came in. I NEVER get goosebumps. The arrangement is excellent. I am actually hearing a woman SINGING, instead of a program simulating an unatalented manequine. The end with the chorus is fantastic. FADE OUT PERFECT!

Just Don't

I am so in love with this song. I've saved it to my playlist. This is hands down the best song I've heard on garageband! The vocalist has the most pure, beautiful, angelic voice when need be, and the most passionate, heartbreaking, yearning voice when need be. Her delivery is exquisitely perfect. She makes me almost come to tears everytime I listen. It's a song that I would rewind a million times over.

The track is so pretty, beautifully accompanying the shining star that is singing this song. I love the way the guitars come in so passionately around 1 minute 40 seconds. That bring out the aching in this vocalist's heart. Lyrically, what more can I say? It's a beautiful, touching song from beginning to end. This girl is going places..mark my words. I'm your new #1 fan. Sing girl! I need some 10's to rate this song. 5 is just not high enough for the ratings I want to give this smash hit!

Vocals - WOW!

This song caught my attention from the beginning with the soft intro. Then the vocals come in, and WOW!
I can't go on enough about how much I like her sound. She has an emotive quality in her voice that says it all. Just a hint of raspiness without sounding like she's trying to sound sexy. Awesome range, and when she really breaks loose and belts it, it gave me chills. Major kudos for the backing vocals, too. BGV's were amazing. The melody is beautiful.
Everything about this song was great - solid production, perfect mix. Lyrics are straight up and heartfelt. This is one I would not only buy, but I'd listen to it over and over again. Radio ready, I'd be calling in requests for this one! Awesome job!

Powerful Pipes

The first thing you'll notice about this song is the passionate voice of the lead singer. Exellent pitch and intonation. It's interesting to hear this kind of R&B vocal style applied to a pop rock song. I like it. This song is a vehicle for an excellent vocalist. When she unleashes the full fury of her voice near the end, I can hear the spirit of a thousand competing singers being crushed. I would be interested to hear her kind of singing applied to an even "heavier" rock song. That would be ground not yet travelled in the genre. Reviewed by: EchoLuna - Mount Pleasant, MI

Awesome Song

Great vocals!! Love her voice. Love the whole song actually. No negative comments from me here! Very original, I could easily see this being used in a movie one day. If this singer/band isn't signed then WHY IS IT SO?

Hit Song!

Great singer! Crisp, clear and just plain perfect. This song is very commercial and well written. It sounds like it should have radio air time - if it doesn't already.
I like the noisy chorus and the fade back down to the verse. Cool back up vocals really hit the spot. Love the song, love the vocals and production. Great Job.
You'll be added to our playlist!

Atlantis Music Showcase Reviews
“Taryn Murphy Gives Fiery, Soul Baring Performance"

Taryn Murphy took command of the stage at Charlie and Barney's in Downtown Atlanta for the Atlantis Music Conference 2005. One look at her provocative attire and one might dismiss her as just mere eye candy, but that would be a big mistake. Murphy has a soulful, powerful voice in a petite frame, and puts together an interesting mix of R&B vocal stylings with a rock and roll beat provided by her excellent band. With one of her songs already on the major movie soundtrack "Wisegirls", Murphy is being courted as the "next big thing" to hit the national music scene. From what I saw and heard last night, she definitely deserves the attention.”

"Emerging Artist Alert!"

“Taryn Murphy came out looking like an 1980's rock vixen, but Murphy showed she has the vocal chops to lead a band and move on to the big time. Blending an unusual blend of R&B, rock, soul, and blues, Murphy performed a convincing, emotionally powerful set.”
